yup, it's about religion believe it or not.
The alien-centered religion of the Raelians (named after leader Rael) had planned a special event to mark World Orgasm Day - a mass orgy for peace in Tel Aviv. However, the event, scheduled to coincide with the Winter Solstice on December 21, was canceled after organizers received multiple threats. Raelian spokesperson in Israel, Kobi Drori, said that the orgy would welcome all orientations, as long as participants were over 18, popular culture blogger Perez Hilton reported Friday. The orgy - intended to "try and bring world peace through mass orgasm, this by experiencing consensual sex and natural, uninterrupted pleasure" - was to be the first of events to take place in Tel Aviv. In January, a conference on sexuality and masturbation will feature experts and writers in the field. Drori said the group will not be deterred by this setback. "We wanted to put into practice the saying 'make love, not war'," he said, adding, "Several years ago an Iraqi boy whose limbs were amputated was shown on TV and everybody treated this as if it was okay, but when Janet Jackson exposed her breast during the Superbowl the American nation was appalled." The Raelians are known for their liberal attitudes towards sexuality. They believe that mankind was created by aliens who arrived here thousands of years ago in UFOs. Despite their opposition to Biblical attitudes towards sex they see the Bible as a book that bears witness to ancient alien visitors, and place particular emphasis on the Book of Ezekiel, which they see as an ancient account of a UFO visitation. http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1050353.html I honestly don't really know what to think of this. They could be right, about the ancient aliens, but what has that to do with their liberal attitude towards sex? It's a nice idea, make love, not war brought into practice, but obviously it'll never work. And in Tel Aviv, of all places! |

Hey, the Raelians! Remember back a couple of years ago, they claimed they'd produced a healthy human baby by cloning? And they kept showing a news clip of an older, kinda "cougar-ey" (old and sorta tarted-up) woman doctor who made that statement?
![]() I think this is her. Here is a Wiki about them. Seems the Raelians started in France and they often have cute woman around. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ra%C3%ABlism Here's a Canadian blogger who says the Raelians use sex to recruit members: Former members of the Raelian cult say attractive members of the movement cruise strip clubs and bars looking for lonelyhearts who are offered free sex - and plenty of it - to recruit them into the organization. "They work the bars and the vulnerable ones are caught," said Steve Hassan, a former Moonie who now helps "deprogram" cult members with the Boston-based organization Freedom of Thought. "They use free sexuality as inducement and recruiting." Former Raelian Pete Cooke was recruited into the cult by a dancer in Montreal's Kit Kat strip bar....... http://www.rickross.com/reference/ra...aelians82.html And here are a couple of pics of Rael, the guy at the head of the organization: ![]() ![]() |

Hang on wasn't John Lennon advocating make love not war back in the 60's??.
Those Raliens need to get some original ideas. I don't think I would have attended something like that..One look at my cellulite and the party would over. ![]()

I wouldn't have thought that Isreal was the kind of place you would want to hold an orgy, the Jewish are not really renowned for their liberal views now are they....

The Raelians are going to Las Vegas:
Las Vegas, June 9 (MIA) - The Raelian Movement is announcing plans to build a UFOland in Las Vegas where visitors can attend a Happiness Academy and see a full-size replica of a UFO. Raelians believe that humanity was created by extraterrestrial scientists and they want to share their belief with visitors to Las Vegas. They will also host a museum and a 1000-seat theatre where their spiritual leader, Rael, will give lectures. "The museum will display all the evidence we've gathered for the past 35 years that shows we were indeed created by scientists -- highly advanced human beings from another planet," said Ricky Roehr, leader of the North American Raelian Movement. He said he expects the UFOland to become one of the most popular destinations in Las Vegas within the next five years. There is no word on where UFOland will be built. http://www.idividi.com.mk/English/Li...257/index.html I guess if you've ruined yourself with black jack you can always go to the 'Happiness Academy' afterwards ![]() Besides from the fact that i think those people are going a bit too far, a UFO museum and a life size UFO could be cool if it's all done properly. This one is probaly based on their rediculous religion. |

If there could be a Dollywood, I don't know why there couldn't be a UFOLand.
But in Las Vegas? The Trek exhibitors are going to be pissed off. Of course if the Trekkers are smart, they've already made some tie-ins with the new Trek movie.Ooops! The "Star Trek Experience" is CLOSED! WTF?! Just when they could be making some serious bucks... ![]()

A UFOLand would be great!
But it should not have a Raelian theme, it shouldn't be biased towards some weird made-up religion. And what about this 'Happiness Academy'? Are they going to learn people all sorts of strange unlikely theories about aliens? |

I haven't read the whole thread but I'm presuming if World Orgasm Day was cancelled then it was something of an anti-climax and the whole thing was premature. Oh well, I'm sure someone will be fingered for it but hopefully they can all come together and try it again.
